Critique Classmate Portfolios

- 3 things that are working:
- Great home page. Anyone who visits your website will instantly get a sense of what kind of art you make and your personality. I think the updates below your name and title also make you seem more real/relatable, which could make people want to work with you more.
- You have a nice about page, too. The artist statement tells me a good amount about you and your work. The photo is also in a nice spot between professional/casual, giving off the vibe that you are serious about your art while showing some personality.
- I think the background color you chose for all of your art pages works well with your art.
- 3 suggestions:
- The white header/bar at the top of every page is a bit distracting. I think removing that would make your website look neater.
- The buttons at the top only work on the home page, so I have to keep returning to the home page to access other pages. Fixing this would make your website easier to navigate.
- I think people should be able to click on your works and zoom in on them. It would also be nice if the images took up more space on the page and the pages’ sides weren’t so empty.

- 3 things that are working:
- I like the works you chose to feature on your home page. I think it immediately gives a good idea of what kind of art you make. (It would be nice if those paintings were included on your painting page, too.)
- Very nice/professional photos on the about page. They make you look like someone who knows what they’re doing, but they also show off a little personality. Great for making people want to work with you.
- Nice layouts, captions, and descriptions on your work pages. And your site is easy to navigate.
- 3 suggestions:
- Your logo uses a pure white background color, while your website’s background (at least on the home and contact pages) is more of an off-white. I think changing the background of your logo to be transparent would make your pages look more cohesive.
- On your about page, there is a lot of empty space next to your artist statement that makes the page look unfinished. I think you should place your photos in that space.
- Your paintings and drawings pages could use a short description like the one on your textile page.
- 3. Alma Madrigal
- https://alma-madrigal.com/
- 3 things that are working:
- Your website uses nice type. It has some personality, but it isn’t distracting or difficult to read.
- You have concise descriptions for all of your pages and works.
- Your website is easy to navigate.
- 3 suggestions:
- Some examples of your work on the home page would be good for getting people’s attention.
- A lot of your art has a white background, so I think you should use a dark background color for the art pages to make your work stand out.
- When I click on an image, it opens up in a new tab. I think it would be nice if clicking on the image opened a pop-up on top of the page so people didn’t have to leave your website.
- 4. Elia Turner
- https://eliaturner.com/
- 3 things that are working:
- I like the simple website design, like the white background and the type you chose. I think it works for graphic design and makes your work stand out more.
- The categories with images on the home page are nice.
- Your website is easy to navigate.
- 3 suggestions:
- I think the pictures for your projects on the branding page could be bigger. Most of the mockups are kind of hard to see, and the website does not let me zoom in on them.
- “SEE WHAT I DO” on the home page might look better centered.
- When you hover over the cover blocks on the home page, text that says “Subtitle for This Block” and “Text for This Block” appears. I think getting rid of the extra text or replacing it with a description of the section would make your site look neater.
